Athabasca University is committed to fostering a robust and supportive culture that will effectively balance disciplinary and mission critical research. While these two fields of endeavor may overlap, the latter tends to focus on inquiry into pedagogical, cognitive, technical, and student support aspects of distance learning, open access, learning technologies, and digital media studies. Interdisciplinary approaches and partnerships within and outside the academy are encouraged to enlarge research contexts and paradigms and to generate new ways of thinking.
The Academic Research Fund supports the attainment of these goals by providing funds to support such research endeavours, foster success in the pursuit of external research funding and facilitate research that falls outside the normal eligibility criteria of external funding agencies.
The Academic & Professional Development Fund fund supports dissemination of knowledge, including the outcomes of research and advances in pedagogical and business practices.
The Associate Vice President Research Special Research Opportunities Fund provides one-time funds for the purpose of establishing research collaborations and/or partnerships, fostering the development of research grant applications in conjunction with external collaborators/partners, addressing matching fund requirements, and supporting select research initiatives not normally funded by the Academic Research Fund. The primary intent of this fund is to help build long-term research capacity within Athabasca University.
The Research and Study Leave Travel and Relocation Fund helps offset travel and relocation expenses necessarily incurred as a result of the conduct of an AUFA academic or professional staff member's approved Research and Study Leave.
