In all cases, it’s best to submit your funding application as soon as you are able. Requests for revisions may occur and may take longer to complete than you expect. Faculty and staff applying for grantsmanship mentoring (external funding only) will need to submit a draft application even earlier.
All applications must be submitted through the Research Portal.
If a deadline falls on a weekend or statutory holiday, the deadline becomes the next business day.
Please note: Some awards have more than one application period. If you miss a deadline for one of these awards you must reapply. Your application will not be carried over.
Publications and juried/solicited creative works:
All faculty/staff applications for external awards must be approved by Athabasca University before they are submitted to the funding agency. You must complete the Funding Agency Application Checklist in the Research Portal to seek this approval.
Students are not required to submit external funding applications to the Research Centre. However, we can provide feedback or assistance on Tri-Agency scholarship applications, if desired.
Review the Faculty External Award Funding Calendar to confirm AU and external deadlines.
Grantsmanship mentoring is available if you submit your final draft 2–3 weeks before the funder’s deadline.
You must submit your final draft through the Research Portal at least 5 working days before the funder’s deadline. Submit your final draft using the Funding Agency Application Checklist.
